Delicious and juicy beef pie belongs to Muslim food that can be seen everywhere in China. Many halal restaurants in my hometown only sell beef pie and offal soup. I’m a frequent eater at these restaurants, so the deliciousness of the beef pies lingers in my memory.
When I think about these delicacies, I want to replicate them at home to satisfy my taste buds.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour
- water
The above two ingredients are used to make a dough. Different flours may have different water absorption, adjust the amount of water as needed.
- Minced beef
- Onion, chopped.
- Salt
- Pepper powder, usually I use ground Sichuan peppercorns.
- Light soy sauce
- Dark soy sauce
- Oil, Chinese commonly used cooking oil, such as sunflower seed oil, corn oil, soybean oil, peanut oil, and so on. You can of course use olive oil. when I make the fillings, I add some oil to make them more moist.
The above ingredients are used to make beef fillings.
How to make beef pies
1. Make a dough with flour, water, cover, and let the dough rest for 40 minutes. During this time period, knead the dough for 1 minute once or twice.
2. Divide the dough into 2 parts evenly.
3. Put one part on a work surface, roll it into a cylinder, and cut into evenly 8 parts.
4. Flatten each one, then make 8 wrappers with a rolling pin.
5. Put some filling on a wrapper, pinch the edges together when rotating, turn the smooth side up, press to form a disc, make 8 pies.
6. Do the same for the rest dough.
7. Arrange the beef pies in a pan, pan-frying until golden brown on both sides. Turn over several times when pan-frying.

- 300 g All-purpose flour
- 180 ml Water
- For fillings
- 250 g Beef, minced
- 150 g Onion
- 1 tsp Salt
- 4 tbsp* Oil
- 1 tsp Pepper powder( can replace with black pepper powder)
- 2 tbsp Light soy sauce
- 1 tsp Dark soy sauce
Instructions

- Put one part on a work surface, roll it into a cylinder, cut into evenly 8 parts.
- Flatten each one, then make 8 wrappers with a rolling pin.
- Put some filling on a wrapper, pinch the edges together when rotating, turn the smooth side up, press to form a disc, make 8 pies.
- Do the same for the rest dough, make 16 pies in total.
- Arrange the beef pies in a pan in batches, pan-frying until golden brown on both sides. Turn over several times when pan-frying.
