Wonton soup is a traditional snack that Chinese people like. It has different names in various places, called huntun in the Northern China, wonton in the South China, and Chaoshou in Sichuan. The size is larger in north than in south. The filling is similar to that of dumplings. It can be meat only, shrimp, vegan, or everything you like.
I like to eat leek stuffing, whether it’s dumplings or wontons. It is best to have leeks in spring, because this is the time when leeks are most delicious in the year. If you don’t have time to make the wrappers, just go to the market to buy some, then pack a few wontons and put them in the refrigerator. When you want to eat , take them out and boiling them that’s convenient, quick and delicious.
The soup should be chicken stock or broth, which will be very delicious. Today I only use simple chopped scallions, light soy sauce, hot oil, and some water, still my favorite.
Notes:
The time to cook the wonton depends on the thickness of the wrappers. Usually it will take 6-7 minutes to cook through.
