Glutinous Rice Rolls with Red Bean Paste ( Donkey Rolling)

Donkey rolling should be one of famous Beijing snacks.Also named it Glutinous Rice Rolls Stuffed with Red Bean Paste.The ingredients include glutinous,red bean paste, soy flour. The snack is soft and sweet, suitable for all ages.

Among the people, there are endless legends about donkey rolling. Some people say that the name Donkey Rolling comes from an interesting story: During the Qing Dynasty, the Empress Dowager Cixi was tired of the delicacies in the palace and wanted to taste some fresh food. The imperial chefs racked their brains and created a pastry called “Jiang Tuan”, which is made of glutinous rice flour and bean paste. However, during a presentation, a young eunuch accidentally dropped Jiang Tuan into the soybean flour. The little eunuch panicked, but time was tight, so he had no choice but to present the Jiang Tuan covered with soybean powder to the Empress Dowager Cixi. After the Queen Mother tasted it, she felt that the pastry had a unique taste and liked it very much, so she named it “Donkey Rolling”.

The main ingredients of Rolling Donkey are glutinous rice flour, red bean paste, and soybean flour.

Ingredients:

  • Red bean paste(sweet), 300 g
  • Roasted soybeans, 150 g grind into powder
  • Glutinous rice flour, 200 g
  • Oil, 2 tbsp
  • Water, 200 ml

Instructions

1. Grind the roasted soybeans into powder with a grinder.

2. Add oil, water to the glutinous rice flour, mix well.

3. Steam the mixture for 15 minutes after the water boils.

4. Sprinkle some soybean powder on the working board, take out the steamed dough ,arrange it with hands, roll it into a rectangle cake with a rolling pin.

5. Spread the red bean paste evenly on it.

6. Roll it by hands and sprinkle with soybean powder.

7. Cut into sections.

8. The donkey rolling is ready.
